A support cylinder construction is for use with photo polymer printing plates. It is used in circular illumination devices with vacuum pre-stressing of the printing plate. The cylinders used are open at both ends and are of differing lengths and/or diameters. The cylinders may be mounted onto hollow drive shafts (2a, 2b) and tensioned into position using a pair of variable axial separation conical type centralising discs (10a, 10b). A releasable vacuum connection (8) may be fitted to one end of the hollow drive shaft (2b).
