<p>The tyres have transverse ducts (24) running just under the tread in which are mounted bars (25) on which eccentric cams (2) are secured. the bars extend beyond the edge of the tyres on one side, with angled ends (3). Rotating the bars, by chain drives linking the bar anguled ends causes the cams to rotate and the ice grip edges to extend out the tread profile. The system enables the driver to activate the ice grips by remote control, using a servo drive to the chain. It allows the vehicle to be driven along roads which are only frozen in stretches, without having to leave the vehicle to manhandle snow chains etc.</p> |
