The tungsten element is for a high pressure incandescent light which is supported by a molybdenum strip. The contact between the W element and the mo support is achieved by welding where the support strip surrounds the wire like a pair of brackets. The heating during the welding process is localised and the melting temperature of the W is not reached. The W wire is not melted at the support cross section and will therefore retain its strength properties. The Mo strip (2) is cut transverse to the longitudinal direction to produce slits (3). The W wire is inserted in the strip overlapping the W wire (1) on both sides (5, 6). The two pieces are then joined by resistance welding electrodes (8, 9).
|
