<p>The dielectric strength tester for electrical equipment is partic. suitable for quality assurance checks on appts. with high operating voltages. The test method is based on Pashen's law in which the breakdown voltage in a given gas is dependent only on the electrode separation and the gas pressure. The equipment under test is placed in an evacuated visual inspection chamber. The gas press. is reduced below atmospheric and held constant and at constant temp. A test voltage which is reduced from the usual h.v. value by a proportion related to the reduction of gas press. below atmospheric is applied to the appts. With a suitable gas pressure, the voltage could be the normal operating voltage of the equipment. An ionised spark-gap driven from a pulsed voltage source serves as an indicator of corona discharge.</p> |
