1400179 Degradation of perfluorocarbon polymers HOECHST AG 20 July 1972 [22 July 1971] 33964/72 Addition to 1357380 Heading C3P A fluorocarbon wax is prepared by thermal cracking of a perfluorocarbon polymer at a high temperature and a partial pressure of the degradation products of 5-100 atmospheres gauge with shearing and frictional force applied to the reactants. Optionally the cracking may be carried out in the presence of an inert gas and with a catalyst. In examples polytetrafluoroethylene waste is cracked by heating in a kneader or kneader extruder either in batches or by a continuous process, under nitrogen. |
