1482367 Web feeding HARRIS CORP 5 Feb 1975 [27 Feb 1974] 4968/75 Heading B8R An apparatus for feeding a web from a roll to a printing couple at a controlled rate comprises a metering drum 30, Fig. 3, over which the web is trained, the drum being disposed between the roll and the couple and driven in synchronism with the latter by a drive 18 and the drum is driven at a normal speed, or at a higher speed corresponding to a difference of not more than 0.5% using a pair of selectively engageable drive trains. One drive train includes drive roller 18 and idler rollers 50, 55, meshing with the gear 43 which is associated with the drum 30 and the other drive train includes roller 18 and idler rollers 60, 50. The latter drive train produces straight through drive and the former a higher speed drive. As shown in Fig. 4, the gear 50 includes coaxial gears 50a, 50b, having respective numbers of teeth 66T, 67T and the gear 55 includes coaxial gears 55a, 55b having respective numbers of teeth 66T, 65T. |
