摘要 1482738 Thermal batteries CATALYST RESEARCH CORP 13 July 1971 32914/71 Heading H1B A heat activated primary battery comprises a plurality of cells, each having metallic electrodes spaced by a normally inactive electrolyte which becomes electrically active when heated by the combustion of a composition disposed between the cells and forming an electrically conductive ash, so providing electrical connection between the cells. The electrodes, electrolyte, and combustible composition may be in the form of, wafers which are stacked and sealed inside a housing, Fig. 1 (not shown). Suitable electrode pairs are Ni-Ca, Mg-Ca, Mg-Cu, Mg-Fe, Mg-Pt, and Ca-Ag in sheet or pelletized powder form; reference is made to the use of Ni coated with Ca or Mg. Electrolyte elements may be made from an inert carrier, e.g. bentonite, kaolin, MgO, asbestos or glass fibre, and a meltable compound or mixture, e.g. LiOH, LiBr-KBr, KOH, LiNO 3 -LiOH, LiCl-KCl or LiOH-LiCl. A depolarizer, e.g. potassium dichromate or chromate, calcium chromate, MoO 3 or WO 3 , may be applied to the electrodes or mixed with the electrolyte; MoO 3 or WO 3 may be attached to the negative electrode using lead chromate as a cement. The combustible composition may comprise a mixture of a metal oxide and a metal as described in Specification 1,482,739. The combustible elements are ignited by means of a percussion primer and fuze train.
