1453644 B - (p - pivaloylbenzyl)malonic acid diethyl ester SANDOZ Ltd 15 Feb 1974 [20 Feb 1973 3 Oct 1973] 25338/76 Divided out of 1453643 Heading C2C The novel compound, bis-(p-pivaloylbenzyl)- malonic acid diethyl ester, may be prepared by forming a Grignard reagent from 4-bromotoluene and reacting it with pivaloyl chloride to form p-pivaloyltoluene, subjecting this to free radical bromination to yield α-bromo-p-pivaloyltoluene which yields the required compound on reaction with diethylmalonate in the presence of strong base. Pharmaceutical compositions of the novel compound with the usual excipients show hypolipidemic, especially hypolipoproteinemic activity when administered orally. |
