The electrolyte consists of a potassium hydroxide solution containing zinc powder and is supplied to the cells from a tank 8 via pipes 9<SP>1</SP>, 11<SP>1</SP>, 13<SP>1</SP> and pumps 10<SP>1</SP>, 12<SP>1</SP>, 14<SP>1</SP>. Each cell, which is of the zinc-air type, comprises a negative collector grid a, a porous separator b, a proous active catalytic layer c, a positive collector grid d and a porous water-repellent layer e. The arrangement of the pipes ensures the equality of the potentials of the electrolyte leaving the tank by the pipe 9<SP>1</SP> and returning by the pipe 13<SP>1</SP> thereby preventing corrosion in the tank.
