1482409 Collapsible containers ROSS & BONNYMAN (ENG) Ltd and BOOTS CO Ltd 27 Aug 1974 [23 Aug 1973] 40155/73 Heading B8P [Also in Division B7] A load container 1 has a base [frame 2 formed of a pair of opposite tubular side member 3, 4 interconnected by means of a generally diagonal tubular member 5; a pair of upright tubular side wall members 7, 8 respectively secured on the side members 3, 4; a front closure, for example in the form of a pair of stable doors 11, 12 hinged at 13 to the side wall member 8; and a rear closure wall member 9 hinged at 10 to the side wall member 7, wherein both the front closure 11, 12 and the rear closure 9 can be swung to a position substantially along the diagonal member 5 in plan view, to permit neat nesting of two or more containers. A lid 14 is hinged at 100 to the rear closure 9 and a base platform 20 is hinged at 21 to the wall member 7 and is locked to and supported on the base frame 2 as denoted with reference to Figs. 4A-4C (not shown). The side members 3, 4 of the latter mount castors 6. All hinges 10, 13 and 21 are of the sliding type. The lower stable door 12 is movable to its closed position by a flange 17 on the upper stable door 11 and can be sealing connected to the side wall member 7 via ports 18, 19 as described with reference to Figs. 6a- 6(d) (not shown). The lid 14 is securable in its closed position via interengaging flanges 15, 16, and the rear closure is retained in its closed position by a lug 22 on the base platform 20. Three positions of the lid are obtainable viz a ported slightly open position, a folded position against the rear closure 9 and the closure position as described with reference to Figs. 5a to 5c (not shown). A container is prepared for nesting in another container by folding the base platform 20 up against the side wall 7, folding the lid 14 down against the rear closure 9, folding the lid 14 and closure 9 against the diagonal member 5 and then folding the doors 11, 12 against the member 5. As shown in Fig. 3 the doors 11, 12 may alternatively be folded back against the side wall 8. A pair of nested containers are coupled together by a member on rear closure 9 of the container engaging a hole 27 in the diagonal member of another container. |
