1381637 Laminates K O JACOBSEN 20 June 1972 [22 June 1971] 28790/72 Heading B5N Apparatus used in the manufacture of a bonded panel element or elements, e.g. wall elements for housing construction, comprises a box, e.g. of wooden construction, the internal cross-sectional area of which at least corresponds to the area dimension of the panel elements, and a top 12 and bottom 6, relatively displaceable at right angles to an opening of the box and with sealing engagement at 13 and 14 with the walls of the box, which is connectable to a source of vacuum which can produce a vacuum in the box so that the external atmospheric pressure will effect a relative displacement of the top and bottom towards one another to exert a pressure on one or more panel elements disposed in the box, the bottom of the box being movably supported by a lifting means, e.g. jacks 11 having beams 10, for vertical movement of the bottom to and from a position at or below the top edge of the box to and from a position within the box, the bottom being provided around its edges with a seal which, during movement of the bottom within the box, is in slidingly sealed relationship with the internal sides of the walls of the box. Bottom 6 which may be of identical construction as top 12, may comprises bonded block board reinforced by means of ribs 8 and 9 also of blockboard. Pressure plates 17 and 24 may be provided above and below a stack 15 of panel elements to be bonded and between the panel elements and may comprise a sheet 18 of steel facing the panel elements secured to spaced parallel boards 19, the other surfaces of which are connected to blockboard 21 provided with parallel strips 22, pipes 23 for heating or cooling media being provided in grooves 20. The panel elements may be constructed and bonded outside the box on the bottom 6 which is conveyed to and from the box with the aid of support rollers 47 and 48 mounted along the side walls of the box which may be swung from a position outside the box space to an operative position beneath the bottom of angle rods 49 which carry rollers 50 and are rotatably mounted in sleeves 51 rigidly mounted on the box walls. Vacuum is effected in the interior of the box by means of a pump which sucks air from the box through a flexible tube connected to an opening in bottom 6. |
