The bumper bar for motor vehicles consists of a box-shaped base profile which, on the top face, has a section of elastic plastic or rubber which serves as a buffer strip. This section (buffer strip) is connected with the base bar (1) only in the area of the side edges. The elastic buffer strip (3) has a hollow chamber (5) running in the longitudinal direction. At least one of the free edges of the box-shaped base bar has a sight shield which is materially integral with the elastic buffer strip. The buffer strip and the sight shield are integral with a protection strip (9) which covers the base profile.
