The advance adjuster (6) actuates the rotation of the contact breaker plate (51) in the direction of ignition advance. The retard adjuster rotates the contact breaker plate in the direction of ignition retard. A valve unit (8) connected to the carburetter (1) is coupled to the adjusters upstream of the throttle (1a). This safeguards the supply of the intake under pressure to the respective adjuster in accordance with the engine temp. The retard adjuster is connected to a second valve unit (9). The first valve unit (8) and the intake manifold (2) permit connection of the retard adjuster to the atmosphere, when the under-pressure in the intake manifold exceeds a preset value. In an opposite instance the retard adjuster and the first valve unit are interconnected into the circuit.
