Polydodecamethylene terephthalamide is prepared by a polycondensation of dodecamethylene diammonium terephthalate (I) at 255- 275‹ C. in the solid phase in the presence of a lower fatty acid, (II) as viscosity stabilizer. (II) Which may be present at 1 to 4 molar per cent of the polymer may be a C 2-4 acid, e.g. acetic acid. (I) May be prepared in situ from an equimolar mixture of dodecamethylene diamine and terephthalic acid (or polyamide forming derivatives thereof). The resultant polymers may be melt spun into films, filaments and yarns. |
