Sweeper comprises a frame (1) driven by castors and containing dirt containers (8) which are provided on each end wall (10) with a manually releasable locking device (17) which lockingly engages in an opening (23) in the adjoining side wall (2) of the frame (1). Locking means can be mounted on the outside of each end wall and has a vertical spring arm which is mounted parallel to and at a distance from each end wall (10) and has a locking member (22) for engaging into the opening (23) and a button (24) at its upper end which when pressed down into the end wall and away from the side wall (2) releases the lock. In this way the dirt container can be easily released from the machine without the locking means being in any way affected by the dirt.
