<p>A melting medium for combining free O in a sample from a metal melt, partic. liq. steel, in which the essential constituent of the medium is metallic Ge in an amt. sufficient to combine with the free O in (part of) the sample to produce a dense non-porous test sample for analysis. The device for extracting the sample has a hollow cavity for the Ge, which is pref. 0.05-0.5% of the sample. The Ge melts quickly, does not vaporise explosively and produces a test piece that can readily by prepd. by cutting etc.</p> |
