<p>Iodobenzenes of formula (I) (X=H, F, Cl, Br, alkyl, alkoxy, NO2, CF3, CO2H, CONH2 or alkoxycarbonyl, specifically 4-Cl; Q=H or Cl; all alkyl etc. have 1-4C) are prepd. by reacting QCl2C. COOH with X-substd. iodozobenzenes. (I) are intermediates for antimicrobial iodonium salts (II) by reaction with benzene (opt. substd. by alkyl or alkoxy) or thiophene. (II) derived from thiophene give 100% kill of Staph. aureus and Salmonella typhosa at 0.001 wt. % in nutrient agar.</p> |
