Ceramic rotor discs can be made from electrically conducting ceramic material by means of spark erosion and of non conducting ceramic by means of ultrasonic machining using probes, the shape of which corresponds to the shape of the profile to be machined. When profiled blades are manufactured which are in the shape of a twisted aerofoil, both profile surfaces (7, 11), i.e. the pressure side and the suction side are machined separately. In such profiles, straight parallel lines can be drawn from the top profile to the bottom profile, which together form the required profiled surface. During machining, the profile is twisted and moved along. The width of the required profile tool depends on the amount of twist that will be given to it.
|
