<p>1398114 Ultrafiltration CALGON CORP 16 June 1972 [16 June 1971] 14343/74 Divided out of 1398111 Heading B1X A method of treating sewage to reduce its water content comprises forming a coating comprising an absorbent on a supported semipermeable membrane, contacting the coating with sewage under pressure to effect the passage of water through the membrane and removing the coating from the membrane when its absorbent capacity is at least partially exhausted. The absorbent may be a clay, diatomaceous earth, a zeolite, ground-up fireclay and firebrick, incinerated sewage solids, fly ash, cement dust, vermiculite or green sand. The coating may also include an adsorbent e.g. activated carbon. The membrane may be of cellulose acetate on a porous, tubular, glassfibre reinforced, spiral wound or flat substrate.</p> |
