Divalent metal ions of Cu, Ni, Co, Zn, Cd, Hg and/or Pb are extracted from their aq. solns. by treating with an organic solvent immiscible with water and contg. in soln. an 8-sulphamidoquinoline pref. of formula (I), so at least some metal ions enter the organic phase as a complex with (I). The organic phase is then sepd. and stripped for the metal ions by an aq. stripping soln. (I) and the metal complex each have >2% solubility in the organic solvent. Organic solvent is pref. an aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon, or their mixt. with min. flash point 65 degrees C., and contg. 2-50% (I), esp. for extn. of Cu2+. In the formula, R1 and R2 are 1-20C hydrocarbyl or hydrocarbyl or hydrocarbyloxy, Br, or -NO2; and R is e.g. =5C alkyl or alkenyl. Specific. example of (I) is 8-(decylmethl-benzenesulphamido)quinoline.
|
