Handleable thermosetting compsns. partic. sheet moulding cpds. are prepd. from a liq., homogeneous, essentially reactive H-free mixt. comprising (a) 5-80 wt. % of an olefinically unsatd. monomer capable of free radical polymerisation, (b) an amt of an olefinically unsatd. mono-anhydride such that the mol. ratio (a):(b) lies between 0.5:1 and 8:1, (c) a satd. anhydride component contg. a satd. polyanhydride (I) and a satd. monoanhydrice (II) of which (I) represents at least 50% of the anhydride equiv. in an amt. such that the ratio (b):(b)+(c) lies between 0.2:1 and 1:1, (d) an amt. of an epoxy component comprising a polyepoxide (III) and a monoepoxy cpd. (IV) of which (III) represents at least 50% of the epoxy equiv. such that the ratio (b)+(c):(d) lies between 0.1:1.0 and 2.5:1.0 and (e) 0.1-10 wt. % of an accelerator which is practically inactive during the initial copolymerisation reaction, but subsequently causes the anhydride ring to open prior to reaction with the epoxy gps. The compsns. are used in combination with glass fibre reinforcement and filler in the prodn. of sheet moulding cpds.
