1402385 Dimerisation catalyst GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO 3 Sept 1973 [2 Oct 1972] 41317/73 Heading B1E [Also in Division C5] A dimerisation catalyst comprises (1) WCl 6 or WBr 6 , (2) an alkyl aluminium halide of the formula R n AlX 3-n where R is C 1 -C 6 alkyl, X is Cl or Br and n is 1, 1.5 or 2, and (3) a ligand comprising aniline or a derivative thereof containing up to three C 1 -C 4 alkyl nuclear substituents. The catalyst used in the Examples comprises WCl 6 , Et 2 AlCl and 2, 6- dimethylaniline. An inert solvent such as benzene or chlorobenzene may be present. |
