<p>1517939 Shaft seals W LODIGE F LODIGE and J LUCKE 15 Dec 1975 [21 Dec 1974] 51186/75 Heading F2B A gaseous shaft seal in a horizontal or a vertical mixing container, Figs. 1 and 2 respectively (not shown) is characterized in that the velocity of the gas increases constantly before entering the container. The embodiments show a pressure chamber 8 surrounding the shaft 2 and having a crosssection which decreases constantly towards an annular gap 5 facing the inside 10 of the mixing container. The varying cross-section may be produced by a conical bore in the chamber 8, Fig. 3, a conical surface 19 on the shaft 2, Fig. 4 (not shown), or both, Fig. 5 (not shown). The air flow is said to protect the mechanical seal of the container.</p> |
