A slurried blasting explosive, wherein a watersoluble oxidizing salt and fuel are suspended in an aqueous medium, comprises a liquid non- explosive organic nitrate, for example isopropyl nitrate or amyl nitrate, as a sensitizing ingredient; the organic nitrate is not adsorbed on the fuel. The oxidizing salt may be ammonium, sodium, barium, potassium or calcium nitrate or mixtures thereof, and the fuel may be anthracite, fuel oil, sugar, Al, Mg, B, Si, or a watersoluble lignosulphonate or mixtures thereof. Guar gum together with zinc chromate or sodium borate may be used to thicken the water, and nitrocellulose and ethyl alcohol to thicken the organic nitrate. |
