<p>1465420 Carbon disulphide RHONEPOULENC INDUSTRIES 16 April 1975 [17 April 1974] 15657/75 Heading C1A Carbon disulphide is prepared by the gas phase reaction of sulphur and one or more sulphur containing organic compounds of general formula RS n R<SP>1</SP> where n = 1 or 2, R = alkyl containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms and R<SP>1</SP> = hydrogen or an alkyl group with from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, by passage of the reactant mixture at 450‹- 800‹ C. through a reactor wherein the reactant dwell time is from 1 second to 1 minute. Preferably a 30% (by weight) stoichiometric excess of sulphur is used in order to avoid side reactions. Methyl, ethyl, propyl and butyl mercaptans and dialkyl sulphides can be used as starting materials.</p> |
