1-Amino-2-propanols (I) are new: (where Ar1 and Ar2 are aromatic residues opt. substd. or are mono- or di-azacyclic moncylic residues of aromatic character opt. substd. and linked to the O-atom by a cyclic carbon atom, one of Ar1 and Ar2 being a heterocyclic ring system, and Alk is an alkylene group separating the N- and O-atoms by at least 2C). (I) are beta-receptor blocking agents, lower blood pressure through vasodilating activity and are antagonists of the vasoconstricting effect of noradrenaline. At low doses (I) are cardioselective in comparison with the blocking action on the blood vessels. In particular 1-(2-(5-carbamoyl-2-pyridyloxy)-ethylamino)-3-(4-hydroxyphenoxy)-- 2-propanol and 1-(2-(2-carbamoyl-phenoxy)-ethylamino-3-(3-pyrazinyloxy)-2-propan- ol have an action on betaadrenergic receptors. (I) are used for their positive inotropic action, esp. for the treatment of heart muscle insufficiency. (I) are also intermediates for other drugs.
