The dialysis membrane is produced from a plate or foil (1) of stainless steel having a thickness of about 12 to 13 mu and is furnished with holes (2) having a diameter of about 5 mu . The holes (2) are then controllably reduced by a coating (3) to a diameter of about 20 to 80 ANGSTROM . The dialysis membrane is principally used for medical purposes in an artificial kidney (haemodialysis) and makes possible reduction in duration of the haemodialysis. <IMAGE>
