New aq. emulsions of iodinated glycerine fatty acid esters consists of 50-60 wt.% of an iodinated glycerine fatty acid ester or mixt. of such esters with an alkyl chain length of is not 10 C-atoms; 2-10 wt.% of a polyoxyethylenesorbitan fatty acid ester as emulsifier; and 2-40 wt.% water. Used in diluted form, the emulsions are suitable for use as X-ray contrast agents, particularly in lymphography and hepatosplenography. The emulsions are stable and can be sterilized without problems. When diluted, they can be administered without adverse effects, and are well absorbed, so that after-effects are few. A formulation given in an example is as follows: Basic emulsion produced from 4g polyoxyethylene-sorbitan monostearate and 4g redistilled water; 60g iodinated poppy oil (40 wt.% iodine- "Lipiodol" RTM) added to base emulsion with 100g redistilled water.
|
