Cooling tower with central mast and tensioned wall - has lower wall ring used as support for cooling elements

A cooling tower comprises a central mast and a (flexible) wall comprising a mesh of cables, this mesh of cables is extended between an uppr ring suspended from the mast and a lower ring. The lower ring forms the bottom boundary of the cooling tower wall and also serves as the support for cooling elements. The lower spacer ring may have prestressed cable spokes anchored to the mast or similar spokes anchored to the mast foundation. Some of the cooling elements may also constitute spokes. The lower part of the mast may widen outwards in a generally conical shape (not illustrated). Used partic. as a dry cooling tower. The lower region of the tower is considerably simplified in partic. there is not difficult gap to bridge and seal between the spacer ring and a separate support system for the cooling elements.
