The tea filter has a filter vessel (1) having an outlet opening (5) into which can be inserted a closing hollow rod (6) which is open at least at the bottom. The wall of this rod is provided with an overflow opening (9) which lies beneath the upper edge (10) of the filter vessel when the rod (6) has been inserted in the outlet opening (5). Thus, if the level of the filtrate now rises to near the upper edge of the vessel, the excess water and/or amount of filtrate can flow away through the overflow opening and then down through the opening at the bottom of the hollow rod and into the receptacle.
