Pitch prilling plant - which passes hot fluid through perforations to solidify free falling droplets in cooling bath

Liq. hydrocarbons such as electrode pitch are converted into prills by breaking up jets into spherical droplets of specified dia. The droplets fall through a gas space into a cooling bath of a non-miscible fluid. The bath temp. is low enough to solidify the droplets without letting them stick together or breaking them up. The prills have a uniform size and cause no dust or stickiness problems in handling. The plant takes up less space than conventional pelletising equipment and requires less maintenance.
