A motor vehicle, instrument panel mounted, climate control mechanism is folded from a flat one-piece plastics moulding. A base-plate 12 having slots 24, 22 has hinged to one end members 68, 74 and to the other end members 30a, 48a in turn hinged to members 30b, 48b in turn, again, hinged to members 30c, 48c. Manual operating levers 38, 58 are respectively hinged to the members 30b, 48b. Ribbed feet 78, 80 and 86, 88 are hinged to the base-plate 12. The hinges are formed by decreased moulding thickness. The members 68, 74 and 30c, 48c are brought together and connected by interference fitting tongues and grooves (70), (76) and (37), (56) to form closed loops with the base-plate 12, with the levers 38, 58 being so folded as to extend through the slots 24, 22. The feet 78, 80 and 86, 88 are folded and joined at their ends by interference fitting pegs 80d, 80e and holes 78b, 78c. The pegs may be riveted over at their ends. The levers 38, 58 have enlarged ends 44 (64) receiving knobs or handles. Movement, by the vehicle driver, of the operating levers along the slots 24, 22 causes a following movement of extensions 94, 96, 98 respectively on the members 30c, 30a, 48d, these extensions being connected to the vehicle climate control mechanisms by cables or wires. The base-plate 12 extends through an aperture in the instrument panel, and a position indicating translucent panel 100 is positioned between the operating lever ends which extend through slots in a flanged bezel 102. A bulb to illuminate the panel 100 may extend through a hole (26) in the base-plate 12. An auxiliary control member, e.g. a blower switch, may extend through apertures 28, 100a, 102c respectively in the baseplate 12, the panel 100 and the bezel 102. |
