1435302 Baby soothers LEWIS WOOLF GRIPTIGHT Ltd 3 Dec 1973 [14 Dec 1972] 57798/72 Heading A5R A baby soother comprises a shield 10 carrying on one side a teat 15 and on the other side a handle 11 which incorporates two narrow neck portions 12, constituting hinges. The teat is secured to the shield by means of a tapered plug 14, which is domed at both ends. The open end of the teat 15 is provided with a thickened rim 16, and the shield carries a boss with a central bore containing two shoulders 17, 18 and a frusto-conical portion 19, with the same taper angle as the plug 14. In assembly the teat is pressed into the bore so that the rim 16 engages with the shoulder 17. When the plug 14 is pressed in, the flat surface under the larger head engages the rim 16, the smaller head traps the teat against the shoulder 18, and the tapered part of the plug traps the teat in the bore 19. In another embodiment, assembled similarly, the shield is made from two parts (20, 21) (Figure 3, not shown) joined at their peripheries. A closed space (22) between these parts contains beads (23) to produce a rattling effect. The shield and handle may be moulded from polypropylene. |
