Highly purified type B hepatitis antigen (HB Age is produced from fluid blood material by maintaining the pH at 4.4-4.7 while adding 4-4.5% polyethylene glycol (I) to ppte. the antigen; then sepg. the ppte. and adding water to give a material having the same antigen concn. as the original blood material, and adjusting to pH 4.9-5.1 to ppte. proteinaceous material; sepg. the ppte. and adjusting the pH of the fluid to 4.4-4.7 and maintaining this pH while adding 4-4.5% (I); and sepg. the pptd.
