<p>A platform for transporting or handling loads consists of a no. of parallel slats of which alternate ones are fixed while those between them can be raised or lowered by lifting devices, esp. inflatable tubes beneath them. The movable slats contain fixed bearings each housing a rotatable load supporting device esp. an inverted spherical castor. The spherical castors and/or their support bearings pref. comprise a self-lubricating and/or self-cleaning surface, they may be made from a matl. contg. nylon, also graphite and/or molybdenum disulphide, optionally also glass as filler matl. Each cup bearing pref. has a drain hole at the bottom for the escape of dirt. The platform is used for storing and transporting heavy loads e.g. onto and off vehicles. The platform may comprise movable slats both on its top and on its bottom face, so that either a load can be rolled on/off it, or it can be fixed under a load and itself rolled on/off.</p> |
