The metal screw (12) is split into two legs (30) by a central cut which extends almost to the head (14). There is a central tapered hole extending from the head (14) almost to the end of the shank. The screw is locked by driving a parallel pin with a pointed end into the tapered hole. The pin forces the legs (30) apart causing them to bite into the thread of the tapped hole (24) and so providing a secure form of locking. This method can be applied to screws with any type of head, countersunk, hexagonal or round.
|
