<p>A drum for a centrifuge, esp. a pusher centrifuge with oscillating plate, comprises a drum wall which is completely closed (unperforated) except for one or more rows of holes. Pref. the rows of holes are ahead of the further limit of movement of the oscillating plate. More speficially the rows of holes are in a slightly divering region of the inner face of the drum wall, esp. in a cylindrical region of slightly increased dia. between two flat conical transitions. In addition each hole may have an outwardly diverging exit. Prods. having a very high solids content up to nearly 100%, can be centrifuged without excessive wear. In partic. solids of high specific gravity such as machine turnings which are to be degreased and mill scale and so on can be centrifuged. The lower limit to the particle size is reduced. The inlet and accelerating funnel can be more simply constructed, of shorter length and with a flatter apex angle than with previous designs. The pusher plate can be completely flat. The inlet opening to the accelerating funnel and also the inlet pipe can be of larger dia. thus permitting a higher throughput.</p> |
