1481443 Nails ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS Inc 13 Nov 1974 [15 Nov 1973] 49055/74 Heading F2H A nail for securing a covering to a panel, e.g. roof insulation to sheet steel decking, has a shank 10 of arcuate cross-section with a head 12-20 at one end and a pointed tip section 22, 24, also of arcuate cross-section, at the other end, and a pair of elongate wings 26, 26a extending from the tip portion towards the head, each wing progressively diverging from the longitudinal axis of the nail in a direction away from the tip portion, the free ends of the wings stopping short of the head, and the outer edges of the wings having serrations 30, 30a forming locking shoulders. The head comprises a channel section formed by walls 12, 12a, 14, each wall having an outwardly extending flange 16, 18, 20 at its upper end. The lower ends of the side walls 12, 12a are cut back at 15 to clear the wings 26, 26a. When the nail is driven in, the tip portion pierces an arcuate slot in the panel (34) (Fig. 5, not shown) which flexes the wings 26, 26a inwards towards the shank 10 as they are progressively driven through the panel, the shoulders on the wings locking on the panel edge to prevent the nail from pulling out.
