<p>1481385 Separation of precious metals SWARSAB MINING EXPLORATION & DEVELOPMENT CO (PTY) Ltd 4 Sept 1975 [3 April 1975] 36467/75 Heading C1A A concentrate of metals which contains at least one of rhodium ruthenium and irridium together with at least one per cent osmium, lead, arsenic, silver, bismuth and bellurium is heated at 1100-1500‹ C in a gaseous stream comprising oxygen (e.g. air) to quantitatively remove one or more of lead, arsenic, silver, bismuth, osmium and tellurium and convert ruthenium, rhodium, and irridium to their oxides. The gaseous stream from the heating step may be scrubbed with NaOM solution and treated to recover osmium. The residue from the heating step may be fused with KOM and then leached with water to dissolve ruthenium complexes. After filtration, the resultant residue may be heated with HCl and H 2 O 2 in an autoclave or bomb to dissolve rhodium and irridium.</p> |
