1481104 Rolling mills MORGARDSHAMMAR AB 17 July 1974 [20 July 1973] 31631/74 Heading B3M A roll stand, Fig. 5, includes a pair of chocks 1 for supporting the ends of a pair of work rolls 20, threaded rods 3 which cooperate with nuts carried in one chock to provide roll gap adjustment, and backlash eliminating springs associated with each rod for urging the chocks apart. Each rod 3, Fig. 1, has a threaded portion on which axially spaced nuts 2 and 5 are located the rod being rotated to shift the nuts axially and hence adjust the chock 1 and the roll gap. The nuts are connected by pins 8 and are restrained from rotational movement. Spring assemblies 6, each consisting of a nest of spring washers, are positioned between the top nut 5 and a cover 4 of the chock, the assemblies biassing the chock (and lever nut 2) upwardly relative to the rod 3. Since the nuts 2 and 5 are urged in opposite directions by the spring assemblies, backlash is taken up between the nuts and threaded portions. A lubricant supply pipe 9 is provided for the nut 2. |
