<p>1481344 Coal slurry separator in a mine CONTINENTAL OIL CO 1 Nov 1974 [15 April 1974] 47392/74 Heading BID [Also in Division F1] A coal-water slurry is delivered from several coal faces by pipes 25 to a trench 10 in the floor of a mine tunnel, wherein the water and coal separate by gravity, the water being recycled to the coal faces by pump 66, and concentrated coal slurry being pumped to the surface by pump 18. As shown water overflows weir 86 to reservoir 50 at one end of the trench, for recycling by pump 66, and a bucket conveyor moves settled coal to a sump 75, at the other end. The shaft driving pump 18 carries stirring blades 76 and some water may be added to sump 75 by valve 78. Fig. 5 (not shown) illustrates the trench cross-section, and the trench may be extended into side tunnels in cruciform plan. In Fig. 7 (not shown) additional settling chamber is arranged between trench 10 and water reservoir 50, fine solids being pumped from the chamber back to the trench. In Figs. 1, 2 (not shown) slurry discharge pump 18 is located directly in a central part of the trench, and winch-powered buckets shift the solids towards the pump. Trenches etc are lined with plastics or concrete and make-up water is delivered by valves 71.</p> |
