<p>1388271 1,4 - Bis - (dialkyldithiocarbamoylmethyl)piperazines MURPHY CHEMICAL Ltd 11 April 1972 [28 April 1971] 11947/71 Heading C2C [Also in Division D2] Novel compounds have the general Formula I wherein R<SP>1</SP>-R<SP>4</SP> are the same or different C 1-4 alkyl groups and R<SP>5</SP> and R<SP>6</SP> are the same or different and each is hydrogen or a C 1-4 alkyl group. The piperazines of Formula I are prepared by reacting a piperazine of general Formula II or an acid-addition salt or hydrate thereof with formaldehyde and dithiocarbamates of general Formulµ III and IV wherein X and Y are the same or different cations (e.g. Na<SP>+</SP>, K<SP>+</SP>). Preferably, compounds III and IV are the same compound and the reaction is carried out in water at <40‹ C. The Examples 1 and 2 describe the preparations of 1,4 - bis - (dimethyldithiocarbamoylmethyl) piperazine and 1-(dimethyldithiocarbamoylmethyl) - 4 - (diethyldithiocarbamoylmethyl) piperazine respectively. The compounds of Formula I possess biocidal, particularly fungicidal, properties and are used on plants and in seed dressings, paints, soluble oils and paper furnishes.</p> |
