[Also in Division C2] Glucose is obtained in the form of freeflowing granules by continuously supplying a concentrated solution of glucose, through conduit 21 and discharge openings in the lower edge of arms 18, to a granular mass of glucose maintained at a temperature of 50‹ to 110‹C. which is contained in vessel 2 and is agitated by rotation of arms 18, preferably while blowing hot air into the granular mass through ducts 6. The feed solution is prepared by starch hydrolysis, and has a dry matter content of at least 80. The arms 18 are hollow and contain tubes which are supplied with steam through conduit 22 so as to maintain the temperature of the granular mass at the desired temperature. Steam-condensate is discharged from the steam-tubes through conduit 23. Water is evaporated from the mixture of solution and granules; and the moist air leaves vessel 2 through outlet 10. Rotary impellor 12, driven by high-speed motor 11, breaks up agglomerates. The required granular product flows out of vessel 2, through a screen in opening 13, onto plate 15 and conveyor-belt 16. The feed solution may be treated with carbon and an ion exchanger. |
