<p>A cylindrical shaft furnace has a filling device at the top and discharging means at the base, between which lies a treatment chamber of ring-like cross-section with a tube extending through its centre. The tube has slits which communicate with the inter part of the treatment chamber and to manifolds. Around the treatment chamber is a ring shaped chamber which provides gas to the outer part of the chamber by slits. The furnace is used for reducing iron ore contg. pellets, and the ring formed chamber allows large furnaces to be built in which the charge can be evenly subjected to gas over its entire cross-section.</p> |
