The internal combustion engine has sets of valves for inlet and exhaust mounted on opposite sides of the cylinders, and actuated by two side-mounted camshafts. The valve seats are at the level of the cylinder head and their stems are parallel to the axis of the latter. The cylinder block and valves are covered by a head with a recess in its face towards the cylinder, the recess being deeper above the valve seats than the distance for which the valves lift. The peripheral portion of the recess adjacent to the valve heads is of concave section, and the height of the recess decreases progressively from opposite the valve heads to a central zone in line with the cylinder.
|
