The air supply to a blast furnace (not shown) is preheated by being partially used to burn jets of atomized fuel oil in one or more combustion chambers 10. The cold air from pipe 12 after passing around baffle 13, enters air box 14. Compressed air atomized oil burner assembly 15, then draws it into a chamber 10, the resultant air/combustion gas mixture leaving through exit 17. The air is oxygen enriched prior to or after the combustion chamber 10 to bring the oxygen content of the air/combustion gas mixture up to at least 21%, at the blast furnace tuyeres. |
