Seabed mining machine is specifically for manganese lumps recovery and embodies a cutter and loader with upwards sloping conveying chute leading to an elevator assisted by a scraper chain over the chute. Screening facilities are provided as well as adjustments to suit seabed contours. To avoid manganese lump losses, the bottom of the chute is designed as a screen or grid formed from grid bars. In this way, the sludge and sediment is immediately separated from the gathered mineral and drops clear down back onto the sea floor. The machine should operate long periods without maintenance and maximise recovery by means of this simple sediment separation principle.
