Small compressor with valve arrangement for refrigerators - in which inlet valve opens early in the suction stroke

Compressor consists of a cylinder in which a piston reciprocates. A suction opening in the end plate of the cylinder is located on the centre line of the piston. The suction opening is covered by a valve plate made from a ferro-magnetic material. A magnet mounted in the dished bottom end of the piston is made from a sintered ceramic. The face of the magnet is flush with the end face of the piston. The end plate of the cylinder is made from a nonmagnetic material. When the piston starts on its travel away from the end face, the magnet in the piston will lift the valve plate from the suction opening.
