Cutting foam blocks into strips or bars - by pushing the blocks forward at a lower rate than the operating rate of the cutters

Cutting foam blocks or slabs into strips or bars, using mobile cutting tools, comprises subjecting the foam to a controlled pressure; and imparting to it, near the cutting zone, a controlled forward movement which takes effect predominantly downstream of the cutting zone. The resulting rate of advance is less than the operating speed of the cutting tools. Pref. pressure is exerted by means of a pair of rollers between which the foam is passed. The advance rate of the foam is equal to, or slightly higher than, the circumferential speed of the rollers. Esp. for polyurethane foams. Accurate cuts are achieved whilst the risk of damage to the foam and resulting waste is minimised.
