A refractory product is made from waste products of (ferro-)silicon prodn. (comprising mainly ferro-silicon dust) mixed with quartz-contg. sand. The product is used to make mould covers or cores. No vapours are released when the metal is cast (cf. resin-bonded products) and pollution and/or chemical cleaning thereby obviated.
